It's done! We pulled it off! With barely anytime left, we pulled this one out and we are happy with the results.
We changed our idea numerous times and we failed to go through with one idea. We failed many, many times and that s evident in our final video. Genius hour has opened my eyes to many new opportunities to better myself. We may have chosen one of the hardest projects to complete, but the experience is one that was enlightening and very fun to do! We feel that the video turned out great, but I don't think that I see film making in my future!

This looks so good! The idea is flowing perfectly and we are very happy with what we have so far.
The video will be like a documentary explaining the process that we went through. It will give the examples of the failed movies and short films. It will also include videos of us failing at other things that we debated doing before deciding to go with a video. This video will expand on the Genius Hour process while also giving a deep and comical explanation of our own encounters. It will be a story of failures, procrastination, and trying new things. It will definitely be relatable for those of you whoh struggled to meet your goal! We filmed a great couple of scenes for the "mock travel video" and realized that we don't have the equipment to film a good video, nor is Davie pretty enough to film the entirety of the video.
After looking at the grainy footage, we were deeply saddened by he results. We yet again had failed to create a video, and it we started to feel the pain. We really started to believe tat there was no way that we could finish by the due date It wasn't until we found an inspirational YouTube video on the process of film making that we found inspiration. We have a ton of clips, but there are not any that we can clip into a short film. We decided to use the clips that we have to produce a short film about Genius hour itself. This ill be a comical, relatable video for everyone! After shooting the first scene of the "mockumentary," we realized that that idea would not work. We have decided to change our idea AGAIN ahaha.
Our new idea is one that will be very funny, easy, and we have already started filming. The original type of video that got me interesting in getting into film making were travel videos. With the help of the friends that helped us film the awful first scene, we decided to make a travel video on th "beautiful" town of Mocksville. It will be a parody to the cool travel videos in actual cool places like Iceland and Indonesia, yet in our hometown. Some of the places featured are Miller's and the Bull Hole; all postcard worthy, stunning places created by mother nature. We already have some filming done, and what we have looks great. We are glad that we finally started working and have progress, but we are still very far behind and should not have started filming this late. We will get this done for everyone to enjoy. Leave a comment on your favorite Mocksville spot and we will try to include it! Ulises and I finally met up to get stuff done! Over the weekend,we met to work out the logistics of the film. We watched similar mockumentaries such as The Office and Parks and Rec to find out what makes a mockumentary good.
In addition to watching examples of mockumentaries, we also watched instructional videos on how to film mockumentaries and short films in general. We decided we would need two people filming to acquire a variety of angles, and get microphones for optimum sound. For the film, we planned out the entire plot and every scene that we could think of. In addition, we decided what costumes we would wear and how our characters would act. For one scene, we will need your help, as we wil be coming into class to present "our film." The number of times that we have changed our idea is about the same as the grade we're going to get on this project if we don't get moving; 6.
We have decided that it will be best to make our video about the genius hour process that includes our failures through the process. This will be a mockumentary that includes things such as our original idea of "the only people on earth" while also mocking our inability to commit to an idea. We feel that this would make a great film that will show our process in a hilarious manner. The only thing we need to do is actually film something. We are not at all where we need to be on this project. We have a brand new idea hafway through and have yet to pick up a camera. Ulises and I plan to meet soon and spend an entire weekend planning and filming. Please send thoughts and prayers as this project is going downhill very quickly. Us professional directors could use them <3 AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH we're not good at this. With no surprise, Ulises and I have decided to change up our film once more.
Since we are amateur film makers, we decided to stray away from the serious, post-apocalyptic short film. We thought that if we tried to make a serious film, and it was bad, the seriousness would make it really bad. With all of our troubles and indecisiveness while creating our film, we decided to make the video about that; the struggles of making a short film. We want to show the process of making one, while mocking ourselves and showing the struggles of all amateur film makers. We feel that this film will be very funny, even if it's really bad. It will show the struggles that Ulises and I have faced trying to complete this film with no experience or professional equipment. This is THE FINAL idea that Ulises and I are going to use. If we change it again, there is no way that we will be able to complete this film. Thoughts and prayers are appreciated because we really need them. Well, we're halfway through the 12 weeks, and the panic is starting to set in. We are not where we want to be, and we need to start filming.
Over the week, Ulises and I worked with and messed around with our new vision for the film. We worked on a completely new script, discussed endings and plots, and drew a series of new scene blocks. We have almost everything together, but we still need to get to completing the most crucial part; filming. The past few weekends, Ulises and I have been working on trying to get the group together to begin filming, but with the busy schedules of all of us, it has been difficult to get us all together. With spring break approaching, most of us will be on vacation. This has caused Ulises and I to panic for a solution. We messed with the idea of a one man film starring Ulises, but decided that we have changed our plot and script around too much to change it again. If it comes to it, we may have to do this to make the problem of getting everyone together disappear. We hope to start filming as soon as possible, but if we can't get everyone else together, we may need to change things up. We only have a few weeks left, so we need to hop to it. We hope that we will be able to complete this, and make sure that it's not awful. If we want it to be a quality film, we need to start filming ASAP! After discussing problems with the plot of our film, Ulises and I decided to change it up a little bit. We feel that the new plot will make it more clear and interesting for the viewers.
Instead of having it start with the kids waking up, and nobody being there, we are going to start it as if the group was living in a post-apocalyptic world. It will be narrated by the group, explaining what their lives have come to. It will go through what happened, and then move to a flashback, where we plan on using our original idea to explain the fallout, and how nobody really knows what happened. With Connor being a movie addict and actor, he helped us with some great ideas for the script. The film uses many comedic elements, while also creating a serious feeling. We met with Connor over the weekend to discuss what we could do to make this short film seem professional, and entertaining. We filmed part of the flashback scene, and plan on editing it later this week. The idea that we have for this film is great, but we need to get to filming the entirety of the movie as soon as we can. i have a feeling that this will be better than we expected, and we know that you guys will be entertained! After taking 2 weeks to come up with the idea for the movie, we knew we had to get started immediately. We need all the time we can get for filming to make this movie great!
To get ahead of the game, Ulises and I facetimed multiple nights to get the script, scene blocks, and plot taken care of. We completed most of the script, the scene blocks, and have the story planned out. We hope to start filming this weekend. We decided that since we are the ones making the movie, we shouldn't be in it. Because of this, we had to brainstorm possible actors for the short film. The main character in this film will be Connor Robertson, because he has experience and would fit the character well. Grace Fowler, Paige Riordan, and Cassidy Hodges will play the roles of the girls in the group of friends, and Kendall Obando will take the role of the other male character. We started a group chat with our cast and obtained multiple ideas to make this film better. The group had great ideas, and plan on helping us every weekend once we begin filming. This film should not cost much for props, and there is nothing in particular that we need yet. Instead of worrying about props, Ulises and I discussed filming locations for the film. We plan on using my house, Paige's house, the back roads of Davie, the high school, and abandoned house that Connor discussed, and an abandoned shopping center (if we can find one). We need places where there l not be people, and we feel that abandoned places will have that while also creating a post apocalyptic feeling. We feel like we are making good time, and can't wait for the filming process to start! |
